The first team of 2007 left Duns on 26th June returned on the 11th July Most of their time was spent in Kusi, which is 8,500ft up in the Andes, doing construction work on a new building - mainly brick-making - for the boys home there. The second group left in the early hours of the 10th July returning on the 25th. Most of their time was to be spent in a mountainous jungle area called Kimo –8 hours on the bus from Lima however after an eventful journey due to a strike in the country they never got to Kimo and instead spent the time at Kusi, carrying on the work which the first team had begun. There was also be an opportunity for both teams to see some more of the work of the Vine Trust in Peru – providing shelter and education for the children and also medical care for people along the Amazon River.

Through the various fundraising events and initiatives that have been held during 2006/7 we reckon that we have been able to give over £4000 direct to the work of the Vine Trust which is fantastic. This will make a real difference to the lives of the Street Children.

Here’s the boys home in Kusi - where both our workteams eventually arrived.

Wow! Who made all those bricks?  Well actually……!

Miguel, Elber and Martin (the youngest at Kusi at 8 yrs old).

This little boy attends the school at the centre at Kusi but returns back to his home each day.

There were 19 boys in the home when the team arrived and 21 by the time they left.

Rosa and Angel are the Houseparents of the Home at Kusi - amazing people!

Alan is able to hand over the scanner to staff at Belen Medical Centre.

 At last…the workers in action!

Of course, these are only a very small taster of one of the Peru trips.  If you’d like to see and hear more do speak to any of the team members or join us on the Peru Information Night to be held in October.

The Peru trips began with Mike Hudson’s trip with the Vine Trust in 2006 - to remind yourself of how it all started click here.
